RWE to Sell its Gas Storage Business in Czech

RWE, Germany’s largest power producer, has started a process to divest its gas storage business in the Czech Republic, it said on Tuesday, The power company added that it had already received encouraging feedback from potential European buyers.

RWE, Germany’s largest power producer, has started a process to divest its gas storage business in the Czech Republic, it said on Tuesday, The power company added that it had already received encouraging feedback from potential European buyers.

A spokesperson for the company said: “The importance and attractiveness of the business is undisputed, especially in the current situation”, adding that the sales process was at the advanced stage.

RWE Gas Storage in the Czech Republic operates six underground gas storage facilities with a total volume of 2.7 billion cubic metres. According to the group’s website, this volume is enough to supply the Czech Republic for two months during winter time.

RWE Gas Storage is the biggest underground gas storage operator in the Czech Republic. They operate their underground gas storage facilities on the virtual storage principle. The company has stated that it is improving both the quality and quantity parameters of their underground gas storage facilities in order to continuously comply with the requirements of all stakeholders.

RWE Gas Storage is a member of the following organisations and associations: Czech Gas Association (ČPS) and GSE Gas Storage Europe, which is covered by GIE Gas Infrastructure Europe.
