Ozop Energy Solutions, an energy solutions firm based in America has announced that it will deliver a 4MWh smart energy storage project in collaboration with Stem, Inc., a global leader in AI-driven energy storage services. The smart energy storage project will be for a commercial property developer based in New York. Ozop Energy Solutions and Stem, Inc. hope to optimise their revenues from the state’s Value of Distributed Energy Resources (VDER) tariff that compensates energy companies for specific benefits their solutions provide to the grid.

The meter energy storage system will be driven by Athena, Stem’s intelligent software which uses AI to optimize the value of energy through battery discharge and recharge cycles. Ozop also intends to use Stem’s AI-driven storage for their energy storage technologies. Using AI allows clients to deliver critically timed energy to the grid as the New York City utilities demand requires it. Ozop’s storage systems also contribute to carbon offset programs by reducing the need for spinning reserves, an expensive but necessary support feature of utilities.

Ozop has established smart energy storage systems in several states across America, but the facility in New York’s Brooklyn will be the first to apply Stem’s smart energy storage. New York has announced its goal to reach 3GW of storage by 2025, with 70% renewable energy by 2030 and a carbon-free electricity system by 2040. Given these targets, Ozop and Stem expect the state to require more energy storage than other states in the country. The state has created a set of policies including incentives for storage developers and procurement requirements for its biggest utilities.

Christy Martell, Senior Vice President of Sales at Stem said: “Stem’s expertise and Athena, its intelligent software solution is backed by tens of thousands of grid services site dispatches to support energy reliability for our partners and their customers. We are pleased to provide our market-leading knowledge and revenue optimization experience to Ozop, helping alleviate congested grids and furthering New York’s energy goals with smart energy storage.”
