Ocean Wind and EEW to Construct America’s Biggest Offshore Wind Manufacturing Facility

Known as the Paulsboro Marine Terminal, the facility will construct and supply monopiles to Ocean Wind’s 1100MW wind farm off the coast of southern New Jersey. Construction of the facility will be governed by a Project Labour Agreement with the South Jersey Building Trades Council.

Ocean Wind and EEW have come together to construct America’s largest offshore wind manufacturing hub in the state of New Jersey.

Situated in Gloucester County, the project is a major milestone in America’s offshore wind industry. Funding to the tune of $250 million for the project was cleared by the New Jersey government late last year. New Jersey Governor, Phil Murphy said: “Positioning New Jersey as a national leader in the offshore wind industry and developing our offshore wind capabilities have been key priorities of my Administration since day one. As the largest industrial offshore wind investment in the United States to date, the Paulsboro Marine Terminal will be a significant driving force for the state’s economy and create hundreds of good-paying, union jobs to South Jersey. Offshore wind is a once-in-a-generation opportunity, and today’s ground-breaking signals a monumental step forward in propelling New Jersey’s clean energy economy for generations to come.”

The work involved in the project is considerable: EEW has contracted over 30 local construction firms to assist in circumferential welding, sandblasting and painting. The facility is expected to create 260 skilled jobs for the first phase of its construction and manufacturing.

Ocean Wind’s 1100MW farm has been constructed by EEW in partnership with Ørsted Offshore North America. The goal has been to transform New Jersey into a supply chain hub for the American offshore wind industry. Ørsted also operates Block Island wind farm which was America’s first offshore wind production facility. The company also constructed the double-turbine Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind pilot project. Over the past few years, Ørsted has accrued over 2900MW of wind energy capacity through several projects spread across the country.
