
Michael Schmöltzer was born on 1970 in Vienna and graduated in Business Administration at Vienna University of Economics and Business.
From 1994 till 2001 he worked at the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber of Commerce in Austria as vice managing Director of the Association of Gas- and District Heating.
In September 2001 he changed his position and started to work for E-Control Austria, the Regulatory Authority for the Gas and Electricity in Austria till January 2013 as Head of Gas Department responsible for preparation of Gas Market Rules within the regulatory framework and held contacts to energy platforms at European level (Madrid Forum, Council of European Energy Regulators, ACER). As member of CEER and ACER Gas working group and TF Chair from 2002 till 2012 he was involved in the whole EU- Regulatory process in the gas sector.
In February 2013 he started as Branch Manager for E.ON Gas Storage GmbH in Austria (renamed in Uniper Energy Storage GmbH in 2016) and represents the company in the Austrian gas market.
On national level Michael Schmöltzer is Board member of the German Gas Storage Association (INES, Initiative Erdgasspeicher) representing the German Underground Gas Storage Industry since 2017.
On the European level he chairs several Task Forces within GIE (Gas Infrastructure Europe) since 2014 and is active in several working groups in Gas Storage Europe (GSE). Current focus in his work on EU level is developing a position for Gas Infrastructure Operators on the requirements for a new Gas Market Design towards a decarbonized Energy System.
