
Rainer Bachmann mastered physics at the University RWTH Aachen. After his studying, he became responsible for software-based process automation in KRUPP steel plants and led international projects. Later at THYSSEN STEEL, he became head of operations and software development of the overall order processing for sales and production.
In 1994 he became CIO in a major, international mining and drilling company of the THYSSEN group and then headed IT and Innovation of DEMINEX – later: Veba Oil & Gas -, at that time the largest German E+P company and operating on a worldwide level.
When the E&P company was sold, he left and became a partner in the internal management and strategy consultancy of the RWE group and managed the Frankfurt office. At RWE Effizienz in 2010 he became responsible for the Global Business Development for E-Mobility.
In 2012 he returned as an executive board member to management and strategy consultancy, focusing on the utilities, DSOs for electrical grids, and e-mobility working among others for major automotive OEMs, international telecom companies, and mobility services providers.
Since 2017 he was heading the platforms and operations (CIO) in the e-mobility business of E.ON. He was a member of various workgroups at the Federal Government and the relevant associations in the challenges of the energy transition and led an EU Horizon-2020 funded research project.
Since February 2021 he returned as CEO to an international management and strategy consultancy focusing on sustainability, energy management, digitization of the energy transition, smart cities and grids, and e-mobility. He is a member of the EU Senate for Technology and Commerce, an executive board member of the Mobility Alliance at the EU Technology Chamber, and head of the advisory board of Society6.0.
