
Robert Sills is an Asset Integrity Engineer for SSE based in Perth, Scotland. He is responsible for managing and developing the technical aspects of the SSE’s life extension process, which is now ongoing for a number of older wind farms within the SSE fleet. Robert also carries out asset reviews of SSE’s onshore wind farms assessing the performance, health and reliability of the wind farm.
Robert completed a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering at Cambridge University. He went on to found a renewable energy generation company with his family installing a 0.5 MW turbine on their farm which they continue to operate on a long term service agreement. Prior to working for SSE Robert worked as a Rotating Equipment Engineer for Shell in Aberdeen initially working on the design of an offshore floating oil platform for the North Sea. He went on to become a Technical Authority for one of the offshore oil platforms. This included carrying out a life extension assessment for one of the power generation gas turbines. Robert has been a Chartered Engineer with IMechE since 2018.
