Province Resources recently released a statement to the effect, announcing that they had signed a memorandum of understanding to undertake a study to examine the feasibility of a green hydrogen production facility in Gascoyne, Western Australia. The project will also benefit from Province Resource’s expertise in resource exploration. The company is planning to produce minerals, salts and potash from Gascoyne region which will be co-located with the hydrogen production facility.
Western Australia’s Gascoyne region has already attracted significant attention from at least 6 other renewable energy manufacturers in the country. The area enjoys ample wind and solar resources throughout the year.
It has been proposed that the project will be developed in two stages. Upon completion, the facility will be owned jointly by Province Resources and Total Eren. This is not Total Eren’s first project in the country. It has 2 projects already in operation: a 256MW solar plant in Kiamal and a 34MW solar plant at Cohuna which are both in the state of Victoria. This project in Gascoyne, however, will be a major move up for the company in terms of scale and capacity.
Global head of Business Development of Total Eren, Fabienne Demol, said: “Total Eren is pleased to partner with Province on this ambitious green Hydrogen project. This new step demonstrates our strong commitment to the Australian market towards the decarbonization of the country and is also a concrete opportunity to kick off our Hydrogen strategy worldwide. After solar, wind, and storage, we believe hydrogen is the next step in the growth of renewable energies. We are determined to leverage our development and technical skills to make our first of several Hydrogen Projects in Australia a success.”
Province Resources’ Managing Director, David Frances said: “Given the recent drive-by state and federal governments to quickly develop and advance the green hydrogen industry in Australia, I am confident this project will be of strategic national importance. Province is excited to have a global renewable energy leader such as Total Eren as a partner with the technical and financial capability to help Province deliver this project as part of the backbone of the nation’s hydrogen strategy.”
